Brooklyn Brown Ale
Yes, yes! Wes decided to please me by opening with a brown ale! We thought this beer was kind of sweet for your average brown ale. "A little different from your stereotypical..." mused Retha. 3.25 steins out of 5.

Weyerbacher Simcoe Double IPA
"Looks like piss" blurted Retha, and I would have to agree. Due to the color and amount of head that sits atop of the glass, it really looked piss in a glass. However, "looks like some needs more water" because if it were piss the person would have to be a little bit dehydrated. The taste, "Eww! It tastes like I'm chewing on flowers" added Wes. Conversely, "[It] smells like a field of wild flowers" pontificated Retha. 3 out of 5 steins.

River Horse Belgian Freeze Winter Ale
If you've read this you know how we feel about Belgian beers and winter ales. This beer is no exception to that rule. However, Wes decided to contribute that, "Some people call me shitaki" referencing the topography of his phallic... But yea... the beer tastes like a winter boch in a bad way. We, in general, think this is yucky. "It's way ergh" thinks Wes. This scored a telegraphed 1.5 out of 5 steins (we hate your style of beer).

Harpoon Kellerbier
When Wes told me what this was I thought he said it was a colored beer. Then I thought Wes was racist... Pretty average considering this was a special release of a beer. Grainy, kinda like Molson Excel. A sad 2.5 out of 5 steins.

Delirium Noel
Sweet and alcoholic (just what we like). Dark amber color with a mild hoppiness. This beer had some hints of cider within it and it really held its carbonation well. 3.75 steins out of 5.

Cream City Pale Ale
This beer was real hoppy for a pale ale. But it actually smells hoppier than it is. It basically was a pretty standard Pale with a little extra. 3 out of 5 steins.

River Horse Hop Hazard Pale Ale
Smells like a Hefeweizen. Has a real sweet-maltiness to it. Like a pale Hefeweizen. Tastes a little unfinished, like it was pulled out of the fermenter a little early. 2.25 out of 5 steins.

Oskar Blues Old Chub
All I have is 2 Wes quotes... "Looks and smells more like a Porter than a Scottish" and "A Scotch Ale wills balls, big old chubby balls" Hmm... Wes seems to like to compare things to testicles...3.75 out of 5 steins.

You read the title right! I am back from dinner and I have an important beer (#400) to bring to you!

Ithaca Double IPA
Personally, when I read double IPA, I think the beer should have all the qualities of an IPA 2x. This I wouldn't say fits the bill. It's sweet, but not hoppy enough. A rather cloudy beer which gains itself a 3 out of 5 steins.

Samuel Adams Long Shit Grape Pale Ale
Now, if you aren't very familiar with Sam Adams, they hold a competition each year for people to homebrew beer. The person who brews the best gets it distributed. There are 2 winners (1 employee and 1 consumer). Now onto the beer. This beer really lives up to its name. It has a feaux grape smell. "Like you had a glass of white wine and a glass of beer, then burped" comments Wes. All in all a less than delicious beer, 2.75 out of 5 steins.

Samuel Adams Long Shot Weizenbock
This beer is wheaty-bocky, what I would say as true to its style. However, the smell isn't very appetizing. Wes wanted me to add that he doesn't particularly like the style. 2.5 out of 5 steins.

Samichlaus (from the Castle Brewery)
"I almost just puked; that was nasty" was the first thing out of Retha's mouth. I cleverly added, "Nips the nose and bites everything" 2.75 steins out of 5.

Stone Coast Brewing Co. Knuckle Ball Bock
Yet another name that is far too long. This beer certainly has a bock color. But I thought it tasted like seltzer water. Wes couldn't really taste the bock. So in essence this beer looked like a bock, but brought no other bock qualities. 2 steins out of 5.

Sunday River Black Bear Porter
Smells like a Pale Ale. Kind of thin for a Porter. Which lead me to think that it was like a pale porter. The porter qualities really come out in the after taste. We gave this alcoholic beverage a 2.5 out of 5 steins.

Wolaver's India Pale Ale
This was a pretty good IPA; but it just doesn't have enough bite. This beer was bold but not nasty. Retha added, "This is very good" which you know is big because she hates IPAs. 4 out of 5 steins.

Wolaver's Oatmeal Stout
"Ooo That's really good, I like that a lot!" I opened with Wes' praises because I think that in a nutshell describes how we felt about this beer. A strong coffee smell fills the nostrils. A wow all around. 4.75 out of 5 steins.

Fuller's London Porter (beer 400)
Good. "I like it a lot, this is what a Porter is to me" - Wes 4.5 out of 5steins.

blogspot doesn't let me add accents... but there were some in that name. Wine aroma, nice and tart. Boobies can be found on the bottle. "Nice and fruity" commented Rebone (aka Retha). 4.25 out of 5 steins.

Boon Oude Geuze Mariage Parfait
I hate long beer names... Kind of bland (actually really bland). "Smell hypes you up for something that's not there" -W. "It's sharp for 1/2 second and then nothing" I pontificated. 2.25 out of 5 steins.

Geuze Girardin 1882
God I hope this beer isn't from 1882... "OOooOOO good tart" Wes decided to say. Doesn't smell like Geuze. Best tasting in my opinion... 3 out of 5 steins.

Brooklyn East India Pale Ale
Not as strong as an IPA should be. I wouldn't call it an IPA. Christ... someone said, "Cups balls instead of twists" (who would say that... really... that's kind of off don't you think? Who twists balls?!) "If I had balls it wouldn't be grabbing them" -Rebone. 2.25 out of 5 steins.

That's right! I found a hot minute to do a little posting!! So I am bringing you beers that were tasted a rather long time ago... Let's hope my notes are good enough to give you guys some decent feedback...

Liefman's Kriek
This beer is of the Oudnaarde style (heh I said naard). Now this beer from the get-go reaked of alcohol (which I guess some people like... I don't... but hey I'm weird sometimes. It was very tart and very sweet to the tongue... Kind of a Brown meets Lambic (which means you just pleased the various people of the group). We then decided to grant this fun one 4.25 steins out of 5.

Liefman's Goudenband
Are they trying to implying something about this beer (good and bad)? Wes literally had to sieve out the sediment using a cloth towel. Kind of gross action... but it shows his dedication to tasting beer for you all. This beer has a subtle stout taste that can be found in the aftertaste. This was certainly less good than the other Liefman's we've had, but it still gained a 3.25 out of 5 steins.

Affligem Noel
As you must have guessed by the name, this is a Christmas Ale. Why we drank it in March is beyond me... Retha the Grinch decided to evilly ask, "Is this the last Christmas Ale? I don't like Christmas." Wow, I didn't think Retha had that kind of evil in her. "Woah this thing has balls, that are spicy" added Wes. I guess he's tasted enough balls to know what spicy ones taste like... And someone, whom I forgot to write the name of, said, "Of fuck, that is nasty" which kind of sounds like something Retha usually says. This beer got a gross, out of season, 2 out of 5 steins.

Pauwal Kwak
Heh... those are both funny words to me... Very subtle hoppiness, real spirity, and you can really taste the grain. This beer holds a nice, sort of, Red Ale color. No other notes on this one... so to the rating: 2.25 out of 5 steins (I guess we didn't like the flavors stated).

Lefthand Jackman's American Pale Ale
Really, do you need all those words in the title? I mean c'mon... Real hoppy. Pretty standard Pale Ale; which gets a pretty standard rating of 2.5 out of 5 steins.

Geary's London Porter
Large head. Light lemony smell. Pretty standard porter with some extras. 3.5 out of 5 steins.

Orval Trappist Ale
MMmm another Trappist. Very large head for a Trappist. Smells like a Belgian. Kinda really tart with a grainy after taste. 3 steins out of 5.

Gritty McDuff's Pale Ale
MMMM Duff ::drool:: D'OH!. Good caramel Smell (no pale smell to this beer). Really it was more of an ale than it was pale. It was actually pretty toasty for a pale ale (which was extraordinarily interesting. This beer was a pale ale with its own style. A sturdy 4 out of 5 steins.

Newport Storm Rhode Island Blueberry
I love that My spell checker doesn't recognize Rhode as a word. Its a state in the Northeast you dumbshit computer! Rhode Island! SUCK IT SPELL CHECKER!! Strong blueberry aroma that floated from the glass. I definitely could smell it as it was being poured. The room just started to reek of blueberries (a nice smell). A slight poo smell when you get closer to it. Tasted like both an ale and blueberries, but was not mixed well. Soon as Retha tasted it she grimaced. We thought this beer would be the illegitimate spawn of Miller lite, blueberries, and Georgia Moon whiskey. 1.5 out of 5 steins.

Duchess De Bourgogne
Duchess of what? Another beer where you can clearly smell the alcohol (with some fruity under lyings). Retha reminisced about Quel Que Chose. Wes thought it made you smack like the Quel Que Chose did. Certainly doesn't taste like it smells, but we still gave it a 3 out of 5 steins.

Traquair House Ale
It's not bad, but its not my style (I don't know who said that... me maybe... I don't know... probably me). Dark, no head, sweet aroma, flat taste. Mildly smoky and tasty. I have not written a rating for this one. So I will have to guess a 3.75 out of 5 steins.

So, for the first time in over 3 weeks I have time on my hands. After I finished cleaning my room I found 3 sets of beer notes. I then decided it was time to clue you all in. We are around 360 as far as drinking and god only know where we are as far as posting... It seems that we're now just posting when we feel like it. So here I bring to you beers we drank almost 100beers ago...

UFO Hefeweizen
Coming into this, Timm already knew that he liked this beer. Wes and I both thought that it smelt a little like a white wine. And I will make the assumption that you have read the older posts, but you ought to know we generally don't like Hefeweizens but this one was good. As a whole we granted this one a 3.75 steins out of 5.

Magic Hat Circus Bay Hefeweizen
We may not like the Hefeweizens... But we do love our Magic Hat... This brew carried a slight hoppy aroma. "This would taste good with Fruitloops" commented Wes, whom apparently drinks beer with breakfast (or dreams about it I don't like to pry into people's personal lives). Timm concurred that this would be, "the alcoholic's breakfast beer" which I found odd... Wes decided to throw in "The teen aged" I think he thinks teen aged alcoholics like to drink beer with their Fruitloops. A prepubescent 4 out of 5 steins.

Clipper City Hanger Ten Unfiltered Wheat
A similar color to a Double Bock, lead to a beer that was far too sweet. It was also very strong you could smell the alcohol rolling off of it from 3 feet away. Also the smell was pretty good, but not very characteristic of a wheat beer. We hated this so much that we gave it a 1.5 out of 5 steins.

Blue Star Wheat
"It's like a yeast farm took a shit in my glass!" I think Wes said it all right there. This beer should have been the unfiltered one. It was cloudy and thick and full of sediment. But ironically it was very tasty. "It's like a flavor burst in my mouth" pontificates Retha. I also didn't mind it which lead to a fair 3.5 steins out of 5.

Lakefront Klisch Pilsner Beer
I love when breweries but beer in the title of their beer... I bought it in a friggen liquor store and it has a surgeon general's warning on it. Oh yea... and it says it has an alcohol content... ASSES! Regardless, this beer didn't taste one bit like a pilsner (though it did smell like one). It was pretty tasty having just the right amount of sweetness and hoppiness. This was an really good beer but certainly doesn't fit its name. Remember I know its a beer because the label told me... 3 steins out of 5.

North Coast Scrimshaw Pilsner
Now this beer here, no "Beer" in its name... and it brings what it advertises. This smells like a pilsner, even though Retha thinks it, "smells like dog food." It was pretty heavy for a pilsner. As a group we felt this was a good pilsner taken to the next level which is why we gave it a higher rating than the last pilsner who apparently likes to insult the intelligence of its alcoholic consumers. 3.5 steins out of 5.

Otter Creek Vermont Lager
A rather lightly colored lager with a good flavor. Actually to hell with that. A very good flavor. Not overly original, but still great enough to earn itself a whopping 4 out of 5 steins.

Pennichuck Railyard Lager 2-6-0 Mogul
Huh? Is that the combination to your locker at the rail yard? Wes being from the Midwest knows that this beer, "smells like a cow fart." I personally haven't been hick enough in my life to know what a cow ass smells like; but I guess Wes has hung around enough bovine anus to know. Despite the grass fart smell, this beer tasted great. Wes couldn't get off the topic of cow. In fact he equated this beer to a cow, "delicious and smelly." Ick. The smell definitely lowered its rating which we felt bad about but it also gave Wes a little nostalgia. "The smell of shit makes me think of Ohio" (in case you didn't know, Wes is from Ohio). 3.5 steins out of 5.

Victory Festbier (Oktoberfest)
Smells like raisins to me. But tasted kind of mediocre. Retha really liked it though. That's the extent of my notes... 2.75 out of 5 steins.

Gritty's Best Brown Ale

When we cracked open this bad boy a distinct winey smell came off of it. But don't let that deter you... This is a very good beer. "This is the best brown I've had" claims Retha. I would have to agree. It's not too bold, in fact it's pretty smooth with a small amount of head. Wes had a few reservations for what we rated it, but decided to add, "Really good for what it is." And so we gave it a 5 out of 5 steins (good god!?)

Ithaca Nut Brown Ale

A rather creamy smell and taste. Fairly dark in color. Definitely a brown ale, but only in the underlying tastes. I myself had trouble finding the nut taste to it. However, 4.25 steins out of 5.

Left Hand Deep Cover Brown Ale

Why do brewers like to give edgy names to their beers? Why not just call it a brown ale? Well this beer here... It smells like crushed walnuts (and sort of tastes like it too). A rather grainy taste. We find it to be a little differently average. 3 steins out of 5.

Wolaver's Brown Ale (certified organic)

Cloudy Cloudy beer which thins out to a yellowy green color. "This is what I think a brown ale to taste like" adds Wesley. The fore and after taste is delicious (especially for an organic beer). 4.5 steins out of 5.

Peak Organic Nut Brown Ale

Smells a little like a Hefeweissen. Which is certainly strange for a brown ale. But it was fairly delicious, "It's good I like it" Wes adds... And then Retha found something interesting... "There's a weird tang that sits on the back of my tongue." Retha's tang aside, we still gave this a 3.25 out of 5 steins.

Quel Que Chose (cool)

A literal translation from French to English says that means "What That Thing". So here we are drinking what that thing... According to our research there are two ways to drink this beer (cool and warm). This one here smelt a lot like cherry cough medicine. Tastes like cherries with some nutmeg and cinnamon. "This is disappointing" commented Retha. Now as this warmed up in my hand it started to taste better... Wes thought, "This smells like a mold wine," which I find to be a revolting comment. A sad 3.25 out of 5 for our 250th beer.

Quel Que Chose (warm)

I told you there were two ways to do this beer. So Wes boiled up some water on the stove while he cut a gal jug. The hot water was placed in the jug and then the beer bottle into the water. Using his handy dandy laser beam thermometer, Wes kept a close eye on the temperature of the beer. Once it was up to temp it was served. That medicine smell... worse when it's been warmed. I thought it rather smelt of urinal cakes. However, it did taste a lot better warm. "I wish the alcohol content were lower so this would taste better" adds Retha. I agree the alcohol taste was certainly in there and made the beer less enjoyable. A slightly better 3.5 out of 5 steins for our 250th beer.

Sunday River Sun Splash Golden Ale

Wow... I musta been feeling it at this point because my notes don't make too much sense. This had a happy aroma, though it was a bit cloudy. My notes tell me this beer was "very watay" which anyone from the Boston area knows means watery. Wes felt it necessary to add, "It's average." Wow. I am enlightened. 3 steins out of 5.

Whale's Tale Pale Ale

Another rhyming beer... God help us everyone. "This beer is the best beer I've tasted where all the words rhyme" commented Wes. Smells like a standard pale ale. But a watery taste takes away from a par taste. 1.75 steins out of 5.

Sierra Nevada Porter

I discovered the Seirra Nevada brewing company over the summer and I must say I am fond of their work. This beer did not sport a rediculously large amount of head. It was a very enjoyable porter. I don't know why I have this quoted in my notes, but Retha said, "It's really." This beer does go down smooth. I think Wes' comment describes our overall feeling about this beer, "It's a fucking good porter." 4.5 steins out of 5.

Sankaty Light Lager

Beer Advocate calls this a golden ale, but it smells like a pale ale. Therefore, we have no fucking clue what the shit this beer is. We thought it was very good for a blonde (if that's what it is). "For this one, the carpet matches the curtains" boasts Wes (as if anyone knew what the hell he was saying). An astranged 3.5 out of 5 steins.

Wexford Irish Cream Ale

This was a Nitrogenated beer and you can certainly taste the nitrogen. This tastes like they threw in a bunch of Half/Half to get the cream taste. Bob, who recently joined us, thinks this beer is, "[The] Snakes on a Plane of beer." Why do the people I drink with make no damn sense? Regardless, we gave this one a 2.25 out of 5 steins.

Sam Adams Hefeweizen

Yay!! A Sam Adams! This is a damn good Hefe... I think that it tastes like the Sam Adams Cherry Wheat Ale minus the Cherry. Which I got sass for from my counterparts. A delicious 3.75 out of 5 steins.

Sam Adams Pale Ale

Yup I'm drunk at this point, because my notes are brief and not very readable... This beer was not a surprise. Sam Adams definitely advertises the beer the present, Meaning it is a textbook example of its style. A 3.75 steins out of 5.

Sam Adams Irish Red

Just like the pale ale, this beer is a standard irish red. Which is good. Like I said brief notes. 3.75 out of 5 steins.

Sam Adams Black Lager

"This is only the 2nd or 3rd balck I've had, but this is good" quotes Wes. This beer tasted grainy, warm, dark, and smooth. End of notes, 4 out of 5 steins.

Sam Adams Boston Ale

I actually don't have anything written here accept for a 4. So I'm going to tell you: Sam Adams makes great beer. I highly suggest you go out and pick up a mix pack and find the flavor that fits your taste buds. A 4 out of 5 steins.

Shit yo that is fucking hoppy. Has a good concentrated taste. We're all finally beginning to like the hoppy ones. The beer has a great focused flavor, it's not all over the place. When the hoppy flavor dies out you're left with a great amber aftertaste.

We really didn't like this beer. it had a tomato-soupy-juicey-ish flavor and taste which was very strange. We feel that this beer is made of 80% tomato junk 18% mining elves sweat and 2% snow white tears. Matt said that he appreciates the multitude of flavor but he didn't like it.

Ahhhhhh! I hate posting on the blog because I'm so lazy when we do tastings. I'd rather just sit back and enjoy the flavor. WARNING: My notes suck and I'm just writing when I wrote at the time. *I wish my scanner worked cause it would be so much easier to do a post that way.

St. Peter's English Ale
The smell is Carmely and warm. Wes says it has a grainy smell. The taste is very different from other ales we have had. We can't really put our fingers on what it tastes like.

For a cream stout it's not that creamy. We were very disappointed in the taste of this one becuse we felt it tasted more like a rauch beer. It had a suttle smokey flavor. For the style it was very different, but had a great taste nonetheless.

Berkshire Brewing Co. Coffeehouse Porter
Smells like any other porter we've had... the coffee taste it has leaves very early in the enjoyment... minimal oatmeal taste... NO strong after taste. This means to me that we gave it a 3.75 out of 5 steins.

Concord Juncture Porter
"Wow, that is a lot of head" -Retha. Smells a little fruity for a porter. The Raspberry scent that starts the beverage leaves as the beer breaths more and more. This does have a slight toasted flavor to it. Retha ended my notes with, "It's not a great porter, but it's not bad." Thus we give this one a 3 out of 5 steins.

Otter Creek Stovepipe Porter
A Caramelly yet Toasty smell. An after taste that comes a little bitter. This beer was rather heavy and dense (so says Wes). We feel that the qualities of a porter are definitely accentuated in this beer. Then I finished my notes with a comment said by myself, "If I closed my eyes and drank this I wouldn't call this a porter" With that, we gave this 3 steins out of 5.

Samuel Adams Holiday Porter
If you haven't caught on yet, this is the ending of porter night from like a month ago... Also if you've read any of our previous Sam Adams posts you know that we rather like this brewery... perhaps it's because we live in Massachusetts... I'd like to think it's because this beer is amazing... But I did feel, "this is nothing special." But we still love our Sam enough to give this on a 3 out of 5 steins.

JW Lee's Manchester Star Ale
First and foremost I'd like to thank my sister, Alissa, for giving this to me as a Christmas present. She searched far and wide for beers from the book that we haven't posted about... She certainly did a good job with this one. In fact, Retha rather likes this one (so says my notes). Some one said, "It's delicious." It is also very sweet. For you Alissa and all who read this blog, we give this a 4 out of 5 steins (pick some up).

Hopback Summer Lightning Award
God who knows who said this quote (I'mna attribute to Wes), "It's all fucking head!" Some sediment (which frequent readers would know I hate). This tastes more like a Hefeweizen than a summer ale. We're forced to give this bad boy a 2 out of 5 steins.

O'Hanlon's Double Champion Wheat Beer
Smells rather flowery (which Wes made me feel stupid by saying it was the hops). I am not referring to a hoppy smell... I am referring to a bouquet of flowers. There is also sediment in this brew. But still a pretty decent wheat beer. 3 steins out of 5.

Julius Echter Hefe-Weiss Premium
"Ooo I don't like that" sounds like it's a Retha comment. I felt it was a pretty standard Hefeweissen. Though it did pack a strong irony odor. Our good friend Bob joined us and commented, "Mmm smells like a sock." A lame 2.75 steins out of 5.

Tucher Helles Hefe Weizen
Touch her? No I've never seen her before in my life! ... Sorry I had to make that joke... This is your standard Hefewiessen. Really there was nothing special (why don't you believe me!?). But Retha does say it is bad (a pattern?). We're going to have to give this one a 2.5 out of 5 steins.

Blanche De Chambly (white beer)
"Smells like fruit loops" thinks Wesley. I'd actually have to agree with him... this is weird... Sweet and fruity beer (no more notes than that). So we're giving it a 3.25 out of 5 steins.

Schlenkerla Helles Lager Bier
Yay for foreign names no one can pronounce!! This is actually the former namer of the Aecht Brewery (so you know that Wes and I must have enjoyed this one). Yeah that's right my notes say that it's tasty and sort of memorable. However it was not very lager-esque (italics mean emphasis... believe what I type...). 3 steins out of 5.

Samuel Adams Cranberry Lambic
Another Sam Adams? This must be my beer heaven. Oh wait, "I couldn't drink a lot of these; but it's pretty good" says Wes. And I suppose I sort of agree with him. It certainly has the cranberry scent that it advertises. But we came to find out it was not actually a lambic (lying bastards... how could you do this to me Sam? HOW!?).... 3.5 steins out of 5... but its remorseful you lying prick!

Samual Adams Old Fezziwig
Old what? Full of hops (as Sam Adams advertises). Retha rather likes this one (why do I always write rather when Retha comments?). This is a porter-ish beer... So if you like porters I suggest it...This next comment has nothing to do with the beer... but was said during the tasting (and I know Wes asked me to note it). "Are you Jewish? No? Are you Poo-ish? [as he throws his fart at me]" (yes one can throw a fart... feel free to email me to learn how). There is a little 0 made in my notes... but I know for a fact we didn't give this a 0 out of 5... So I'm guessing 3.75 out of 5 steins.

Buzzards Bay Rauchbier
A short while ago we came to find there was a local brewery 6 miles within our college. So we all made a trip out at one point or another... Wes picked up a grauler (spelling?) of this beer (it may be because he and I love rauchbiers). It was smoky (like a rauch) but also sweet. I guess at this point in the night we weren't drunk, because in my notes I have, "5hrs consistant drinking (not drunk). Which I find amazing (just a side note) cmon 5 hours of drinking? Who can do that? Oh wait... we've been drinking large amounts of beer for you all... 3.5 steins out of 5... not our performance... the beer...
